Eastern Connecticut Mortgage Monday

By guest blogger Phil Turner of McCue Mortgage

113 days to go.  That's right.  There are only 113 days to go until the $8,000.00 tax credit for first time home buyers runs out.

If you have not owned a primary residence in the last 3 years you may be eligible to receive a check for up to $8,000.00 from the federal government just for buying a primary residence.  The guidelines allow for a tax credit of up to 10% of the sales price up to a maximum of $8,000.00.  ($70,000.00 sales price = $7,000.00, $80,000.00 or above sales price = $8,000.00).  This economic stimulus tax credit can be obtained by either filing an amended 2008 Federal Tax Return or by waiting until you file your 2009 Federal Tax Return.  An income limit also applies.  To receive the full $8,000.00 a single person must earn less than $75,000.00 and two people need to earn less than $150,000.00

The big and growing concern is that time is just starting to run short.  In order to get pre-approved for a mortgage, spend some time looking at prospective homes, making an offer and getting it accepted, applying for the mortgage and closing will all take time.

Throw in Labor Day, Columbus Day and Thanksgiving and you soon realize that the days until the December 1st expiration date are starting to disappear.  If you are thinking of buying your first home IT's TIME to get going.

Local Realtors and mortgage lenders are ready to help you.
