I was a teenager in Pittsburgh when the first US troops arrived in Vietnam. Although Memorial Day is a celebration of all the military men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedom, the day always takes me back to that time in history. About 12 years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. The one thing I clearly remember is the silence of the visitors as they searched for the names of friends and loved ones. Today I found a link to the Washington Times Searchable Wall. “The Times has made each of the 58,000-plus names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial searchable, a place where you can add personal stories. A digital image of the wall —actually thousands of photos fused together — locates each veteran’s name where it appears on the memorial.” It’s a fascinating site. Spend some time there today. | | | |
