From My Seat on the Ledyard Town Council

Town Budget set for meeting and referendum

100_2287

The Ledyard Town Council finalized its 2009-2010 budget this week.  Since I’ve been involved in town budgets (a very long time), this year has been the most difficult. This budget will achieve a zero mil increase for the next fiscal year, a goal we were aiming for. There was tremendous cooperation by all town councilors and the Board of Education.  I personally want to thank Council Finance Chairman Peter Champagne and committee members Jim Diaz and Sharon Wadecki. I couldn’t even begin to count the amount of hours that they spent debating the cuts they were forced to make.

The 2009-2010 budget will be presented at a Public Hearing at 7:30PM on Monday, April 20th in the Ledyard High School auditorium. The final budget will be voted on by the taxpayers in a referendum on Tuesday, May 18th.

Please attend the Town Meeting and plan to vote on referendum day.  Your input and participation is important to the process.
