Ledyard doesn't make the news. Again.

The New London Day fails to cover Ledyard swearing in ceremonies.

Although Ledyard gets limited coverage in The Day, I was still a bit surprised on Monday when the paper failed to cover the swearing in of either the new Mayor (Fred Allyn) or the Town Council.  Since they did choose to cover the swearing in of Norwich officials (complete with photo), it would appear that swearing in ceremonies are not off limits to reporters.

Here's the problem.  Despite having a website and a periodic newsletter, a small town like Ledyard with limited resources still relies on the press to help keep their citizens informed. It wasn't so long ago that there was a reporter in attendence at both Ledyard Town Council and Board of Education meetings.  Without a reporter in attendance at meetings, only certain news events get reported, and often with a bias towards those who are available to be quoted. As a result, Ledyard citizens are mostly uninformed about town government.

Below is a photo you will not find in The Day - the swearing in of the 19th Ledyard Town Council.
