In Gales Ferry, Stealing from the Dead

Gales Ferry Cemetary Association is left with few assets

Cindy Cross, former executive administrator of Ledyard's Water Pollution Control Authority, was convicted recently of embezzling $152,000 in cash payments.  She currently is in prison serving an 8 month sentence, not nearly enough considering she will only be required to serve half that time. Those who vigorously defended Cindy and spoke on her behalf, site her years of volunteer work for the Town of Ledyard.  Cindy served as Treasurer of the High School Alumni Association, Treasurer of the Ledyard Republican Town Committee, Treasurer of the Gales Ferry Cemetery Association.  Do you see a pattern here?  Now, according to a story in the New London Day, it appears that Cindy embezzled most of the assets of the Gales Ferry Cemetery Association. They have little money left to continue with routine maintenance. Cindy wrote checks to herself, her family, and other organizations she was involved in.

I guess her service as a volunteer to that organization wasn't so benevolent after all.
