Bonnie Erickson, one of my favorite real estate bloggers, has memed me. Her blog Real Estate Snippets is creative and well written. I'll forgive her for causing me to have to do this. The term "meme" (rhymes with dream) seems to have evolved from a book by Richard Dawkins in 1976. As it relates to blogging, I rather like the definition provided on The Daily Meme. Here ya go, Bonnie:
WEB - I live here most days. My first real estate website was in 1996. I have a paper copy of it that I printed out for history. It is surprisingly not all that bad for a homemade website created in Microsoft Publisher. I'm not sure anyone actually found it, except my other techie real estate friends. SEO wasn't in the picture for me yet. There also were not any template sites or many web designers for real estate agents back then. Front Page was not very intuitive and I found it frustrating to use. I seem to collect websites and I am trying to whittle that down. My main IDX site is Eastern CT Home Finder. Buyers and sellers are finding it which is a very good thing. I also seem to have a following at I Love Ledyard, a community website. EMAIL - Email became part of my daily routine pretty early. "Do you use email?" was a question I asked routinely. I find email to be more efficient than a phone call and love the paper trail aspect of it. Hint: If I'm on the golf course, you will probably get a response from me quicker if you send email. My Blackberry has a special place in the cart. BROWSER - Simply IE. AGGREGATOR - I use google reader. Call me a google gal. I love anything google. As an aside, I collect my blog ideas on Google Notebook. I'm writing this on Google Docs and Spreadsheets. I use Google Bookmarks. WIKI - I started contributing to a wiki a few weeks ago. I have a few creative ideas in my head. I'm a beginner and not ready to have the world see what I'm working on. Wiki's for Dummies is due out at the end of July and I'm just waiting for the notification from Amazon. GROUPS - I'm active on a couple yahoo and google groups for bloggers. I'm also a member of a Community Zero group with my Cyberprofessional family. Is Facebook and the rest of the social networking sites considered groups? I tend to follow my blogger friends around there. BLOG PLATFORM - I use Real Estate Blog Sites because I think Bill French is a genius and I love his Myst Technology. I love COO Kristin Veraldi who is always quick to respond which is important if you are a blogger. I have started a photoblog on Type Pad called Simply Ledyard. I hope it eventually grows large enough to be a good resource of photos of Ledyard. I'm learning WordPress. I also blog on Active Rain, mostly to other bloggers. I met most of my blogger friends there. IM - Yes, I IM. SKYPE - Yes, I Skype. RADIO - I'm not a big radio listener. Sometimes the car is the only place I get to enjoy quiet. MUSIC - I like most anything but rap. I don't get that. TV - 24 first. Reality TV fascinates me. I tend to multitask when I watch TV and Reality shows make that easy. I don't watch the main stream media and haven't for over 10 years. BOOKS - I love to read mostly non-fiction but find this blogging obsession has limited my reading time. I still buy books for someday though and I do read a fair amount of business books. I'm currently reading "How to win sales and influence spiders" by Catherine Seda. PODCASTS - Don't listen to them. I'd prefer to read it online. COMMUNICATION - I prefer e-mail or IM. MAGAZINES - Garden Gate and PC World. NEWSPAPER - I read all my news online. Locally, that is The New London Day. Nationally, would give you a very big clue to my politics. P.S. I love Squidoo. I had no idea where to add this but wanted to say it. I have several lenses created in my head. There, I've said it. I'm meming all my friends in my Real Estate Blog Site's yahoo group! I'm curious to see how many accept the challenge. |
