Show and Tell and the Naked Guy in the Basement.

Showing homes for sale in Eastern CT

Showings Homes in Eastern CTAbout once a week, I post a blog on Active Rain.  Active Rain is an online community of blogging real estate professionals. Sometimes I post on Active Rain about selling real estate in the New London, CT area.  This week I wrote a blog about showiing houses and some of the surprises that happen in the process.  I mentioned that I might consider writing a blook about my showing experiences.  Wow!  I was surprised at all the comments I received!  As I type this blog post, I have over 55 comments over on Active Rain.  Lost of the comments promise to buy the book if it gets published and plenty of the others have their own showing experiences to share.  And there are plenty of naked guy comments.

Yes, I probably could write a book about showing houses in Eastern Connecticut.  Some of the chapters would be about the houses themselves.  Others would be about the clients.  Maybe the chapters could be divided into emotions.  Funniest Showings.  Scariest Showings.  And of course, a whole chapter would be dedicated to the "finding the naked guy in the house" showings.   Now and again, a bunch of real estate agents will be together and tell their showing tales.  Inevitably, someone suggests that the group collect all the stores and write a book about it.  It never happens of course.

Before I formed a team, I showed a lot of houses.  I remember the days of driving around for days with relocation clients.  Showing 25 houses on a weekend was not unusual.  We'd stop at a restaurant mid day and review the Eastern CT MLS summary sheets.  Some buyers would write lots of notes on the sheets and we'd rank them in order.  We'd refer to the houses, not by their address, but by some unique feature....like the house with the giraffe wallpaper or the house with the squeaky floors.  Or we'd refer to the house by describing the occupant....like the house with the scary lady with the curlers in her hair or the house with the guy drinking beer by the pool.

Funny how the internet has changed all that.  Buyers now have already weeded out the homes they want to see before they arrive into the office.  They know all the details about the interior from the photos they see online.  (Note to sellers:  Do you realize how important those interior photos are?  For Pete's sake, clean off the kitchen counters.  AND be sure to use an agent who can actually use a camera!)

I have a whole bunch of great stories about showing houses.  Most of them make me laugh.  Did I tell you the one about the naked guy in the basement?  Hey, maybe I really will write a book someday.
