| March 02, 2007 | | A plan for jobs and healthy communities | I attended an interesting meeting yesterday sponsored by the Eastern CT Board of Realtors®. It was a discussion of proposed legislation, HB 7149: Connecticut Housing Program for Economic Growth. I’m still digesting the information and formulating my opinion and I do plan a blog in the future after review of the actual bill. In the meantime, there were 3 statistics mentioned that are quite shocking about the state of the State of Connecticut. 1. Connecticut has lost a higher percentage of 25-34 year olds, than any other state in the nation. 2. Housing costs have risen more than 64% since 2000, while wages have risen less than 20%. 3. In 157 of 169 municipalities in the State of Connecticut, the median household income CANNOT quality for a mortgage to buy the median sales priced home. Clearly, there is a housing crisis in Connecticut. | | | |
