Utopia and Eastern CT Real Estate

How will the Utopia project affect the local real estate market?

Utopia Studios wants to build a $1.6 billion theme park and resort on 419 acres in Preston. It’s not surprising that the question I’m asked most these days is “How will Utopia affect the local real estate market in Eastern CT?”   Let me start by saying… I know if Utopia does happen, it is going to have a huge impact on the area.  "Huge" seems to be the best word I can come up with.   Somehow big or large doesn’t cut it.  I read a book not too long ago about the beginnings of Disney World and how Walt Disney quietly started buying up properties in the area long before Mickey made his appearance.  I can tell you Walt’s name didn’t show up on any of the property transfers in the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.  I wouldn’t be surprised if that quietly starts happening here. I know there is lots of interest in the area.  In fact, many visitors to this site arrive by way of searching a variation of the words “Utopia Studios in Preston”.  Surprisingly, those are the most searched words of people arriving on my blog from the Google search engine.  That certainly indicates that people are interested or at least curious about what’s happening here.

Although 2006 finds the real estate market in Eastern CT shifting in favor of the buyers, the start of Utopia  will most certainly change the whole real estate landscape.  Specifics?  I have none.  Just that it will be huge.
