Extra Taxes for a Select Few in Gales Ferry

Gales Ferry District households pay higher taxes.

Since I moved to Gales Ferry in 1975, I've had the privilege of paying an extra tax as a member of the Gales Ferry Tax District.  I both live and work in the district.  The idea of a separate tax district within Gales Ferry which itself is within the Town of Ledyard, is an idea who's time has clearly passed.  Annual meetings are attended by a handful of people.  One of the few benefits of being a member of the district, is the street lights that the district pays for with my extra tax dollars. The Gales Ferry Community Center building was once active with classes. It is now rented to various groups as the district was unable to successfully operate the building as a "Community Center".

I expect if the district is dissolved, the town will assume responsibility for the street lights as well as the community center building.   Since the district serves no purpose and provides little benefit, I have initiated the circulation of a petition requesting that the officers of the Gales Ferry District call a special meeting to vote on the termination of the district.

If you are a member of the district and wish to sign the petition, stop by RE/MAX Realty Group at 8 Hurlbutt Road!
